518 Day of Giving
We’re joining hundreds of nonprofits across the region as part of the United Way’s 518 Day celebration! With your support, we can help the Youth Department provide biking, art and swimming programs to more than 100 local kids and support safe swimming for the whole community at Oakdale Lake. And between now and May 18th, your gift will be matched, up to $2500, by our friends at MetzWood Insurance!
Donate Online or visit us at the Hudson Farmer’s Market on Saturday, May 18th, from 9am - 1pm.
Or join us at a Volunteer Trail Day on Friday, May 17th from 12-4pm. Friends of Hudson Youth and The Hudson Youth Department are partnering with United HealthCare to spiff up the Oakdale Trail for campers and community alike to enjoy this summer! One volunteer team will be adding a fresh layer of bark chips to the upper section of the trail to protect tree roots and level the trail bed. A second volunteer team will be removing garlic mustard along the trail, an invasive species that is also a nutritious wild edible. Meet in the main Oakdale Parking Lot, 132 North 6th Street, Hudson NY at Noon. Wear sturdy shoes. Tools and snacks will be provided.
518 Day of Giving is the first online, regional fundraiser of its kind on May 18, 2024. The day harnesses the power of community to connect nonprofit organizations with new and existing donors, while raising funds and awareness for the nonprofit community. Collectively, participating nonprofits hope to raise $518,000 to continue to provide vital supports and services throughout the Capital Region and beyond.
Country Life: Book Signing and Reception to Benefit Friends of Hudson Youth
Meet renowned photographer William Abranowicz when he presents Country Life, his new book of stunning Catskills and Hudson Valley interiors on Thursday, August 17th, 6-8 p.m., at the Hudson Milliner Art Salon, 415 Warren Street. The Milliner is generously donating its space for the signing party, and 100% of all proceeds from books purchased at the event will benefit Friends of Hudson Youth, and help us fund innovative programs for young people at the Hudson Youth Department!
Vendome, the book's publisher, says, "Perusing the pages of Country Life is the equivalent of being warmly invited into the Hudson Valley homes of artists, architects, writers, museum curators, dancers, photographers, antiques dealers, set designers, a social worker, a yogi, and even a hall of fame BBQ chef". The interiors run the gamut from famous historical houses to cutting edge contemporary, reflecting the rich culture, past and present, of our region.
So come peek inside some spectacular houses, mingle with friends on a summer night, and support a good cause!
Oakdale ReWilding
We annually host fun, family friendly volunteer days at Oakdale Park as part of our ongoing work to restore the ecology of this valuable urban forest, in partnership with the Hudson Youth Department, Friends of Oakdale Lake and the Columbia Land Conservancy. We are improving sustainability and biodiversity by removing competitive species and planting native trees. Tools and snacks provided.
